Janine & Leanne from our Welsh team celebrated World Children’s Day at Swansea Waterfront museum. They both shared their thoughts:
Janine:
“We had such a fun day representing The Exchange at World Children's Day in Swansea's Waterfront Museum. We met some young people from the Swansea area along with their wonderful teachers to speak about what matters most to them. It was a great way to network with other support services based in the area.
In 2014 Swansea Council made a commitment to make sure that the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child is considered when decisions affecting them are made. This means that children and young people are given a voice on all issues in Swansea that affect their lives and their views are sought on all council decisions that impact on them. It was great to be a part of celebrating of 10 years of the Children's Rights Scheme in Swansea.”
Leanne:
“Our stand was a hive of activity, with children drawn to the irresistible squishies and parents and teachers intrigued by our neurodiversity workshop and innovative resources like the emoji cards and Dragon Mountain programme. We were delighted to see such enthusiasm and interest in our work.
"It was heartening to connect with parents and teachers who shared their challenges in supporting neurodivergent children at home."
We were able to offer understanding, practical tips, and strategies, providing much-needed support and reassurance.
The highlight of the day, however, was undoubtedly reconnecting with an old client. Her massive hug was a testament to the positive impact of our work and a truly heartwarming moment.
Overall, World Children's Day was a fantastic opportunity to engage with the community, raise awareness about neurodiversity, and offer valuable support to those who need it most.”
